A 50-year-old male patient presented for professional tooth cleaning. He had deep erosive lesions affecting the vestibular aspects of his maxillary central incisors, which he did not consider an issue. Nevertheless, the team informed him about the options to improve the aesthetics and protect the remaining tooth structure.

In the case of reconstructions that have an intermediate shade in whole or in part, near-natural reproduction of the tooth shade is typically demanding. The chroma of the restoration must be adjusted selectively or completely to consistently match the tooth shade. With the new VITA AKZENT Plus CHROMA STAINS (VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany), the shade saturation of ceramic restorations can be controlled in a targeted manner. Dental Technician Renato Carretti (Zurich, Switzerland) uses an anterior crown to show how the shade effect can be systematically influenced with the new stains.

RAW workflow: A professional’s approach to planning monolithic restorations on single-tooth implants

For good healing success and predictable gingiva management during implantation, the soft tissue needs as much rest as possible. Gingiva formers, which also act as a scan body, provide the opportunity to perform a scan without disturbing the healing process.

Proper monitoring and maintenance are essential to ensure the durability and health of a dental implant.

A 61-year-old Thai female presented with loosening 9-unit fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). Her chief complaint concerned her loose and unpleasing front teeth with unsatisfactory removable gingiva.

Aesthetic corrections with veneers should be minimally invasive and limited to the enamel and, despite the thin layer thickness in the mouth, develop a natural play of shade and light.

Though many smile design programmes offer us solutions for rendering of multiple-tooth replacements, very often in our daily practice we encounter major challenges when just a single tooth needs to be substituted.

Part of creating an optimal workflow involves the ability to reliably plan for variables that differ with each patient. 3D imaging gives the clinician the ability to view anatomical structures not seen in two-dimensional images. The following case study involving a male patient in need of a restoration shows the advantages of utilising 3D imaging and an integrated digital workflow.

A 28-year-old female patient had the primary complaint of spacing in the upper front tooth region. The patient’s medical history did not reveal any systemic diseases and an intraoral examination revealed presence of midline spacing between maxillary central incisors (~2mm) (Figs. 1 and 2).

The layering concept using IPS e. max Ceram power materials
August 10, 2018
Recently, several new ceramic materials were launched in the market due to the growing demand for safety and aesthetically pleasing prosthetic solutions. CAD/CAM chairside technology has been developed with the aim of manufacturing prosthetic structures with characteristics of constant quality. CAD/CAM technology not only offers the possibility of directly designing a restoration on a computer and automatically obtaining the final product, but also offers many advantages compared to the conventional techniques in terms of speed, precision and ease of use. The following case shows how MyCrown CAD/CAM chairside can change traditional dentistry by opening new ways of solving for both aesthetic and health issues.

The configuration of post-endodontic treatment cavities is typically deep. If the surrounding tooth structure is still intact, there will be a high C-factor (cavity configuration factor) due to the large surface area for the filling material to bond to.

Although the headquarters of COLTENE are in Switzerland, its endodontics plant is in southern Germany. At the factory, located in Langenau, a town between Stuttgart and Munich, 155 employees produce treatment auxiliaries and endodontic equipment in a fully automated and camera- and laser-controlled process. The German location houses an impressive logistics department thanks to the office’s central location. Dental Tribune was invited to learn more about the company’s endodontic products.

A 43 year old female came to my practice with a history of non-attendance. She was concerned about generalised sensitivity with her heavily-restored dentition, many teeth of which featured extensive composite restorations with recurrent caries detectable both clinically and radiographically. Certain teeth with extreme structural compromise were planned for bonded porcelain restorations, however, restorations like this large MOD were planned to be restored with direct composite due to financial constraints.
