Caries or dental decay in children has been known to exist for many centuries . Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a chronic, transmissible infectious disease affecting the primary (milk) teeth. It is defined as the presence of one or more decayed, filled or missing tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child 71 months of age or younger . It can result in considerable suffering, pain, reduction of quality of life of affected children and disfigurement and frequently can compromise their future dentition. The etiology of the condition is a combination of frequent consumption of fermentable carbohydrates as liquids, especially at night, with on-demand breast- or bottle-feeding, oral colonization by cariogenic bacteria (especially mutans streptococci) and poor oral hygiene .

General dental practitioners and paediatric dentists face real dental emergencies that effect children, especially dental trauma. Avulsion is considered, in terms of severity, the worst of all dento-alveolar injuries. This is when the tooth is completely displaced out of its socket and the socket is found empty or filled with a blood coagulum. We report a case that describes the management of an avulsed maxillary central incisor (21) in a fit and healthy 8-year-old boy, accompanied by a lower lip laceration. The management of 21 took place up over a period of 12 months.

Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is a relatively common dental defect that appears in first permanent molars and incisors and varies in clinical severity. The specific etiological factors remain unclear. Inappropriate diagnosis can result in mismanagement of the condition and results in early loss of first permanent molars (FPM) in particular. Therefore, the early identification of such condition will allow early intervention including monitoring and preventive interventions that might help in remineralisation of the hypomineralised tooth structure. These preventive measures can be instituted as soon as affected surfaces are accessible.
