Smile Design & Aesthetic Restorative Options PART 2

Course Outline:
Aim: to provide the options and techniques for carrying out posterior diagnostic waxing and aesthetic posterior direct composite restorations and alternative indirect restorations

Objectives: By the end of the day delegates should have a better appreciation of:

  • tooth shape in relation to posterior tooth anatomy
  • posterior tooth aesthetics using composite layering techniques
  • posterior occlusion
  • bulk fill and natural layering techniques
  • matrix systems and finishing techniques


Outcome:
A better understanding of the options and techniques available regarding tooth shape and anatomy in relation to smile design and successful restoration outcomes and aesthetic composite layering.

About the tutor:
Prof. Brian Millar, UK, BDS, FDSRCS, PhD, FHEA
Professor of Blended Learning in Dentistry at King’s College London and NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the King’s College London Dental Institute at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Specialist in Prosthodontics and in Restorative Dentistry.
Programme Director for the internationally popular MClinDent (Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics) and in the past set up the highly successful MSc programmes in Aesthetic Dentistry and also Advanced General Dental Practice by blended learning at the KCL Dental Institute.
Almost 35 years experience in clinical practice and currently an active specialist clinician in both hospital and private practice, particularly in treating tooth wear, aesthetic and occlusal problems utilising MI philosophies where possible.
Experienced teacher to undergraduates and postgraduates and well-known provider of postgraduate education nationally and internationally at conferences through lectures, seminars, webinars and hands-on courses.
Published over 160 papers, supervised over 200 PhD and Masters students. Research includes management of occlusal problems using MI techniques, bringing together esthetics and function with a focus on tooth preservation.

Mr. Bill Sharpling, UK, RDT MBA DipCDT RCS
Bill is Director of the London Dental Education Centre (LonDEC) & a Senior Clinical Teacher at Europe’s largest dental institute, Kings College London Dental Institute. Bill has responsibility for running LonDEC, the post qualification training establishment at the Dental Institute. Prior to this appointment at LonDEC Bill was the Head of Dental Technology at Guy’s, Kings College and St Thomas’ Hospitals. Bill is a teacher and examiner for KCL Dental Institutes MSc Aesthetic Dentistry & MClinDent (Fixed & Removable Pros) programmes.
He qualified in 1986 and spent the next 10 years working in the U.K and abroad where he gained advanced qualifications in fixed and removable prosthodontics. Prior to his appointment as Head of Dental Technology at Bill worked in the Armed Forces and as the Chief Instructor in Conservative Dental Technology at Guy’s Hospital Dental School. In 1999 Bill completed a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at one of London’s Business Schools where he graduated with a distinction.
Bill has lectured extensively within the UK and also lectured internationally on many topics relating to dental technology within dentistry. Bill also works in private dental practice in Harley Street, London at the Harley Steet Oral Reconstruction Centre where, along with other members of the team, he concentrates on full arch implant assisted solutions.
He has served on the editorial board of the Quintessence Journal of Dental Technology and is currently serving on the editorial board of the Royal College of Surgeons Journal “Primary Dental Care”. He has recently authored a chapter in the soon to be published Elsevier “Essentials of Esthetic Dentistry - Principles of Practice”.
Bill serves on the Faculty of General Dental Practice Dental Care Professionals Committee at the Royal College of Surgeons, on the dental panel of GlaxoSmithKline and also sits on the All Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry. He is a national and international Opinion Leader to a number of dental companies.
