DUBAI, UAE: 3D technology is revolutionizing radiology. A two day hands-on course was orgnaised at the CAPP Training Institute in Dubai and The Royal Rose Hotel in Abu Dhabi on 24-25 November 2017. The hands-on training course provided general dentists and radiologists the ability to integrate three-dimensional diagnosis in their daily practice.
The initiative was a partnership between The Nordic Institute of Dental Education, Planmeca Academy and CAPP Training Institute to facilitate interested delegates with an introduction into 3D imaging and diagnosis in dentistry. Over 40 dental professionals attended the two-day hands-on course which took place at the CAPP Training Institute in Dubai Media City and The Royal Rose Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 24-25 November 2017.
The agenda included a morning overview of 3D imaging compared to 2D techniques, radiation safety, prescribing CBCT scans, minimizing radiation exposure, basic interpretations of dental CBCT images and technical skills on image processing. The afternoon was a practical hands-on session covering basic diagnostic skills for analysing dental CBCT volumes and several clinical cases were discussed using the state-of-the-art computer software Planmeca Romexis®. Different analysis and segmentation tools were explained and practiced on the software, including panoramic reconstructions, nerve and tooth segmentation, TMJ and airway analysis, optical scan fusion and implant planning. The dental training included accreditations from local accrediting bodies Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as well as CAPP which is an ADA CERP recognized provider of continuing education credits
