Course Objectives

By the time the delegates has completed this cours will...:

  • Critique failures in Maryland bridge design
  • Evaluate the criteria determining the type of Maryland bridge prescribed
  • Describe the applications for: single cantilever, fixed-moveable and fixed-fixed designs
  • Incorporate design features to resist forces: lingually, occlusally and coronally
  • Produce preparations showing gingival finish lines of the correct depth and position
  • Demonstrate guide planes to increase the wing height and give retention/resistance form
  • Present proximal grooves parallel to the tooth long axis and having mesial and distal walls
  • Confine the lingual groove within the gingival and occlusal finish lines
  • Respect the preservation of the grooves‘ lingual walls when placing rest seats
  • Confirm fixed-fixed bridge design features show a common line of draw on all abutments

Prof. Paul Tipton, UK

Prof. Paul A. Tipton, UK is an internationally acclaimed Specialist in Prosthodontics who has worked in private practice for more than 30 years. He is the President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry (BARD) and is the founder of Tipton Training Ltd, one of the UK’s leading private dental training academies and the author of over one 100 scientific articles for the dental press. He has been named at #12 in ‘The Dentistry Top 50’ for 2017 in the UK and voted in the Top 20 ‘most influential dentists in the UK’ by his peers in Dentistry Magazine in April 2012, the leading Prosthodontist in the poll. Prof. Paul was also voted in the top 5 dentists in Private Dentistry’s Elite 20 poll, January 2012.

He gained his Master’s Degree in 1989 from the Eastman Dental Hospital and London University and started teaching on the University of Manchester’s MSc in Restorative Dentistry. He is now Professor of Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry at the City of London Dental School. His private dental training academy, Tipton Training, was founded in 1991 and to date over 3000 dentists have completed a one year course at the Academy.

Dr. Adam Toft, UK

Dr Adam S. Toft qualified in 1995 with Honours from Sheffield University, having already gained a chemistry degree in Bangor, Wales. Since qualifying he has been interested in all aspects of dentistry, especially orthodontics, restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

Adam has completed a 2 year postgraduate orthodontic course and a 4 year placement at the Royal Hospital, Chesterfield as a clinical assistant in the Orthodontic Department. He enjoys attending postgraduate courses and has been a vocational trainer for newly-qualified dentists over a number of years.

Adam has completed a 1 year Certificate course in Restorative Dentistry in Manchester as well as a yearlong Certificate in Practical and Aesthetic Dentistry with Tipton training in the mid 2000’s

Dr. Ashish Rayarel, UK

Ash is the principal dentist and the owner of the Ashdental.
Ash qualified in 1989 from the University of Manchester. Since then he has gained the MFGDP (UK) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998. Ash has been an approved trainer for new graduates since 1996 and has been awarded the certificate in teaching and learning in professional practice with merit from the University of Central Lancashire and also from Edgehill University. He also teaches dental students at Manchester Dental Hospital and has worked at the local hospital treating patients with difficult restorative cases.

Ash has a keen interest in cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics. He is enthusiastic about new innovations and ideas and shows his commitment by continuously improving his knowledge by completing postgraduate courses. He has undertaken year long courses in restorative dentistry, practical and aesthetics where he received a special commendation award at the esteemed St Anne's Clinic; he has completed the dental implant course under the supervision of the eminent and highly acclaimed Dr Paul Tipton.
