DUBAI, UAE: This year’s UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC Dubai) welcomed more than 80,000 visitors and reaffirmed AEEDC Dubai’s role as a leading global platform for innovation, education and professional exchange in dentistry. During the meeting, the organisers announced the launch of Dubai Dental Week, a citywide initiative set to début alongside AEEDC Dubai 2027, extending the event’s reach beyond the exhibition halls to engage dental professionals, industry and the wider public across Dubai.

This year, AEEDC Dubai attracted participants from 192 countries and featured 5,860 global brands represented by 4,316 exhibiting companies, showcasing the latest technologies, equipment and medical supplies in the field. Over the past three decades, AEEDC Dubai has evolved from a regional meeting into a globally recognised dental gathering, serving as a key meeting point for clinicians, academics, manufacturers and policymakers. The next edition is scheduled to take place from 19 to 21 January 2027.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the organisers announced that the inaugural edition of Dubai Dental Week will be held from 16 to 22 January 2027 across multiple locations in the city and that it is planned as an annual initiative. Conceived as a complementary extension to AEEDC Dubai, the programme aims to broaden engagement by combining professional activities with public-facing initiatives designed to promote oral health awareness and education.

Aligned with Dubai’s long-term economic and healthcare strategies, Dubai Dental Week aims to strengthen the city’s position as a global hub for dental education, innovation and medical tourism, said Dr Abdulsalam AlMadani. (Image: Index Holding)

Dr Abdulsalam AlMadani, chairman of AEEDC Dubai and the Global Scientific Dental Alliance, explained that the initiative represents a natural evolution of AEEDC Dubai’s long-term vision and will both reinforce Dubai’s position as a hub for oral health and have lasting economic, educational and societal impact. By expanding beyond the professional workforce, Dubai Dental Week seeks to involve local communities and position oral health more prominently within the public discourse. “We are proud to launch this landmark event in Dubai, which represents a transformative step for the global dental industry. Dubai Dental Week is set to unite the entire dental ecosystem—professionals, educators, innovators and the public—through a citywide platform that promotes knowledge sharing, advanced education and innovation-driven practices,” he said.

Dubai Dental Week is designed as an inclusive global platform bringing together dental professionals, academic institutions, policymakers, equipment and oral care brands, specialist media, and patients and their families. Planned activities include professional meetings, educational sessions and outreach programmes, alongside awareness campaigns hosted in dental clinics, hospitals, schools and shopping malls throughout the city.

A central objective of the initiative is to highlight oral health as an integral component of overall health and well-being. By combining professional education with public engagement, Dubai Dental Week aims to strengthen preventive care awareness, support early intervention and encourage informed decision-making among the wider population. For dental professionals, the programme is expected to provide additional opportunities for networking, collaboration and knowledge exchange beyond the traditional congress setting.

The week will culminate in a clinic festival, offering dental practices the opportunity to present their services and tailored dental tourism packages. This component reflects Dubai’s growing profile as an international destination for medical tourism, supported by advanced infrastructure, a highly skilled workforce and a strong regulatory environment.

Market data underlines the relevance of the initiative within a rapidly expanding industry. According to a market report published in 2024, the UAE dental market is projected to reach US$318 million (€298 million*) by 2030 at a compound annual growth rate of 7.4%, driven by increased health awareness, government initiatives promoting preventive dental care and rising demand from medical tourism.

Figures from the Dubai Health Authority show that Dubai had 4,162 licensed dentists as of March 2024. This extensive clinical capacity supports Dubai’s growth as a medical tourism destination. According to the Dubai Health Authority, the city welcomed 691,000 medical tourists in 2023, and 29% of whom sought dental care, particularly aesthetic procedures such as tooth whitening and veneers and even smile makeovers, according to AEEDC Dubai.

Through the introduction of Dubai Dental Week, the organisers aim to strengthen synergies between professional education, industry innovation and public health engagement, positioning Dubai at the forefront of global developments in dentistry.
