NYU appoints Abdulsalam al-Madani as first Emirati professor

DUBAI, UAE: New York University (NYU) in the US has appointed Dr Abdulsalam al-Madani as a professor, making him the first Emirati to hold such an academic position at the institution. The appointment was announced during the 2026 UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC Dubai) and is a significant recognition of UAE excellence and international leadership in higher education and medical innovation.

NYU’s participation at AEEDC Dubai reflects more than three decades of cooperation between the university and the congress. The announcement was made during the 23rd Global Scientific Dental Alliance meeting, attended by senior dignitaries from the UAE and the US, as well as representatives of international health bodies and academic institutions. Prof. al-Madani currently serves as the roving ambassador of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean for the Gulf Cooperation Council region and chairman of AEEDC Dubai, the Global Scientific Dental Alliance and the International Congress for Health Specialties. His appointment underscores his distinguished leadership and professional record and his prominent role in supporting scientific partnerships, educational development and global cooperation in the medical industry.

Responding to his appointment, Prof. al-Madani said: “I am deeply grateful for this scientific and academic recognition from NYU, which reflects the international appreciation for our efforts in developing the medical industry and enhancing the continuing education system. This honour is not just a personal achievement; it is a recognition of the vital role Emirati talent can play in advancing the medical and higher education sectors globally.”

“This recognition serves as an incentive to continue supporting high-quality scientific research, expanding knowledge exchange and building influential academic partnerships. It also solidifies the UAE’s position as a global hub for science and knowledge, reflecting its vision of investing in people as the foundation for sustainable development,” he continued.

The Global Scientific Dental Alliance meeting, held alongside AEEDC Dubai, brought together 438 representatives from 211 organisations across more than 45 countries, highlighting its global reach. Delegates from universities, government bodies and professional associations discussed scientific advancements and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in dentistry, as well as the importance of international cooperation in public health and dental education.
