Ajman University is set for a monumental shift following the issuance of Emiri Decree No. (14) of 2023 by H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. This transformative decree signifies the transition of Ajman University from a for-profit entity to a non-profit institution, reflecting a strategic move aimed at elevating the institution’s academic and research pursuits, ensuring financial independence, and expanding educational opportunities globally.

According to the Decree, Ajman University is granted legal personality and capacity to fulfill its objectives with financial and administrative independence. It will be owned by the Government of Ajman, freeing it from the applicability of the government's financial, administrative, and human resources systems.

Outlined within the Decree are the University’s objectives, encompassing the support of development, promotion of scientific research, and achievement of academic excellence on local, regional, and international fronts. Additionally, the Decree emphasizes the promotion of higher education access, cultivation of qualified professionals, and the fostering of a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Chairman of the Executive Council, and Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, commended the visionary decision of H.H Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi. The transformation into a non-profit institution is anticipated to open new avenues for academic excellence, aligning Ajman University with prestigious international counterparts in terms of financial and academic independence.

This strategic shift aligns with Ajman University’s steadfast commitment to delivering top-tier education, advancing knowledge, and promoting outstanding research. The University's newfound financial independence will enable reinvestment in academic excellence, research initiatives, student support services, and facility enhancements, directly benefiting the entire university community.

H.H. Sheikh Ammar emphasized the reinforcement of Ajman University’s dedication to the intellectual growth and personal development of its students. The transition aims to continually elevate academic excellence, quality, and education outcomes across diverse academic programs and disciplines.

This Decree nullifies Emiri Decree No. (6) of 2021 and any conflicting provisions in other legislation. The University will adhere to existing rules and regulations until new ones are issued. Effective immediately upon its issuance, this Decree will be published in the Official Gazette.

This transformative Decree underscores Ajman University’s commitment to becoming a leading institution globally, granting it greater autonomy in shaping educational and research policies, making financial decisions, and achieving strategic goals.
