DAKAR, Senegal: From 17 to 19 October, the first International Dental Exhibition Africa (IDEA) was successfully held in Dakar. The show, which was organised by the Italian Dental Industries Association (UNIDI), was initiated in order to provide global dental manufacturers with the opportunity to expand their business into the African continent by presenting their latest products to local dental professionals and distributors.

The exhibition, at which 70 dental companies from Africa and abroad showcased their products and services, was complemented by a comprehensive scientific programme, including lectures organised by the Association Nationale des Chirurgiens-Dentistes Sénégalais (the Senegalese national dental association) and by the FDI World Dental Federation, as well as practical workshops organised by UNIDI.

Owing to the cooperation with the FDI in particular, there was remarkable involvement of African dental associations from more than ten countries, the organisers stated.

Given the success of the first exhibition, UNIDI plans to invest further in this event, in order to render IDEA the reference dental event for the entire Western African area. UNIDI President Dr Gianfranco Berrutti said, “We consider Africa a continent with huge potential, both from a business and a cultural point of view. We do hope to contribute to helping the world become aware of this potential. In the next few years, we will be working hard to further develop the role of IDEA as an essential instrument for economic, scientific and health care development in Africa.”

The next IDEA will take place from 29 to 31 October 2016. A number of companies have already confirmed their participation. More information will become available at www.ideadakar.com.
