DUBAI, UAE: It is widely accepted that the root canal morphology is highly complex and canal irregularities are challenging areas to clean and disinfect thoroughly. In an upcoming Dental Tribune Study Club webinar, endodontic expert Dr David E. Jaramillo will discuss and compare the efficacy of a new laser irrigation technique that uses photoacoustics via photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) with other commonly used irrigation techniques.
In particular, Jaramillo will outline the advantages of the PIPS concept in comparison with light microscopy, scanning confocal electron microscopy and bacteriological technology. At the end of the 1-hour online course, participants will be able to assess the efficacy of the PIPS technology for root canal disinfection and dentinal debris removal.
The webinar, titled “The use of laser-activated irrigation (PIPS) for the root canal”, will be broadcast on 30 August at 1 p.m. (EST). Dental professionals interested in attending the course may register free of charge on the DT Study Club website.
Jaramillo is Associate Professor of Endodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the US. He obtained his DDS in 1986 from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, where he also completed his postgraduate training in endodontics in 1990. He was formerly Clinical Assistant Professor of Endodontics at the University of Southern California (USC) and Loma Linda University. He was the Clinical Director of Endodontics, endodontics course director in the International Dentist Program, and a researcher at the USC Center for Biofilms and the Center for Dental Research at Loma Linda University. Jaramillo has lectured at meetings of endodontic associations in 12 countries and has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and six book chapters.
Furthermore, Jaramillo is the scientific chairman of the 2016 ROOTS SUMMIT, which will take place from 30 November to 3 December at the Crowne Plaza in Dubai. At this must-attend event for all endodontists, he will be holding a lecture titled “Irrigation of the root canal system: Efficacy of a new laser technique (PIPS) compared with conventional irrigation and passive ultrasonic irrigation” on 1 December at 3.15 p.m.
Registration for the ROOTS SUMMIT is still open at www.roots-summit.com/register.
