DAKAR, Senegal: The FDI World Dental Federation and its local partner IDEA Dakar have announced the new dates for the FDI African Summit and the first International Dental Exhibition Africa (IDEA). The event will be held in Dakar in Senegal from 17 to 19 October 2015. Originally scheduled for 8 to 10 November 2014, IDEA Dakar had to be postponed owing to the Ebola outbreak in countries in the region.
For the FDI, on the one hand, the main objective of IDEA Dakar 2015 is to provide leadership training to 20 African national dental associations. IDEA Dakar, on the other hand, aims to attract major international dental manufacturers wishing to expand their business to the African continent.
IDEA Dakar and the FDI entered into a partnership in July 2014 with an agreement to organise a series of three dental events in Dakar for the period 2014 to 2016. The events are being organised together with the Italian Dental Industries Association (UNIDI).
IDEA Dakar 2015 is the first in this series of events and is expected to be one of the most important events in the dental industry on the African continent in 2015 owing to the partnership between the FDI and IDEA Dakar. Wide attendance by African businesses and professionals is expected, as well as the support of the major local professional associations and the Ministry of Health of Senegal. Furthermore, numerous international dental businesses have reconfirmed their participation.
In addition, the event will be promoting several social initiatives, one being an education programme by the foundation of Associazione Nazionale Dentisti Italiani (national association of Italian dentists) entirely dedicated to prevention in elementary schools targeted at local dentists and teachers. An initiative by UNIDI will be a live demonstration for local dental technicians of the entire production phase for different kinds of prostheses.
