Today marks World Smile Day – a day when everyone is encouraged to make people smile through small acts of kindness worldwide. One company that is committed to the World Smile Day mission is Align Technology – global medical device company and makers of the Invisalign clear aligner system, which has now been used to treat 15.7 million patients across the world.
Whilst most people can easily access the care they need to achieve a well-aligned smile, there are individuals who face barriers to access appropriate dental services with the specific adjustments required – for example, they cannot be put through brace treatment for medical reasons – making it difficult for them to achieve the smile they deserve.
Align Technology’s ‘Act of Random Kindness’ (ARK) initiative is a non-profit programme that provides free-of-charge orthodontic treatment with Invisalign to patients with health issues such as genetic syndromes, craniofacial or clefts, health related contraindications to fixed appliance treatment or other contraindications to fixed appliance treatments, and mental and physical disabilities. The initiative is available to Invisalign-trained doctors and patients to access also in the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Piloted in 2015, the ARK initiative has now treated more than 100 patients to date through Align Technology’s ‘pay it forward’ model, who may not otherwise have been able to access such expert care, tailored to their unique needs.
Angelo Maura, General Manager Middle East at Align Technology, said: “We’re proud to empower Invisalign doctors in the region with the opportunity to help their patients achieve a healthier smile. Dental health can sometimes be overlooked when considering our general well-being, and we remain committed through this social responsibility programme to create meaningful impact in the communities we serve, for the people who need it most.
“We envision a future where oral health, and random acts of kindness, can be prioritized on all days, starting with World Smile Day. ” Angelo continued.
Maintaining a healthy, straight smile is an important part of everyone’s overall health and wellbeing. Together, with the expertise of highly skilled orthodontists, Align Technology is committed to making meaningful impact in communities that are most affected by health inequalities.
