Dentsply Sirona is expanding its range of zirconia blanks to include another multilayer disc with an inner color gradient: The new hybrid zirconia Cercon ht Multilayer, or for short – Cercon ht ML. With its natural gradient from incisal to dentin, the new partner of the proven Cercon xt ML is synonymous with high aesthetics, strength and quick processing of up to 14-unit bridges.
Cercon ht ML is a highly translucent hybrid zirconia with various shade layers. While developing Cercon ht ML, Dentsply Sirona's material scientists particularly focused on high aesthetics and strength – based on customer requests and more than 20 years of experience with zirconia. The result is a hybrid zirconia for monolithic restorations from single crowns up to 14-unit bridges. This is achieved by combining extra translucent and highly translucent zirconia in a special layer structure in the disc.
High strength – up to 14-unit bridges
Overall, four layers are integrated into the disc: dentin (1200 MPa, the proven Cercon ht), two transition layers, and incisal (750 MPa, proven Cercon xt ML aesthetics). Irrespective of the disc height, bridges can be securely positioned with their connectors in the disc in the high-strength dentin area, while benefiting from the aesthetics in the incisal area.
Together, the structure of the layers makes it unnecessary to stain Cercon xt ML restorations because the color gradient from incisal to dentin is similar to a natural tooth, even in the monolithic model. Generally, the only processing required is glazing and firing.
As a result, the laboratory benefits from the color accuracy of the tried-and-tested True Color Technology and the uniform sintering temperature for Cercon zirconia. This simplifies and speeds up the sintering processes in the laboratory. The new multilayer zirconia is available in the proven 16 VITA* colors and bleach shade BL2.
Team for flexibility and cost-effective processes
Cercon ht ML expands the range of indications of Cercon Multilayer with its slightly lower translucency in the dentin area compared to Cercon xt ML and offers particular benefits as an extra translucent multilayer material, especially in the anterior region. Cercon ht ML also allows for discolored tooth dies to be covered, particularly in the anterior region, depending on the degree of discoloration of the die and the wall thickness of the restoration. Cercon Multilayer's color reliability, a wide range of indications for monolithic restorations, and standardized sintering processes create a strong team for an excellent multilayer solution.
For laboratories, this means a high degree of flexibility for the desired restorations and efficient processes in the laboratory.
Cercon ht ML with a standard disc diameter (98 mm) is immediately available in various disc heights and is suitable for processing in leading open milling machines. Furthermore, inLab MC X5 users in particular benefit from the processing strategies tailored to Cercon, based on careful material validation at Dentsply Sirona. Cercon ht ML can be selected in the material library from inLab CAM Software Version 20.0.1. Optionally, material information such as the disc name, color, height, LOT and sintering shrinkage can be automatically and therefore quickly and reliably entered into the workpiece overview by scanning the printed QR code with a webcam. Depending on the aesthetics and functional requirements, the multilayer restoration can be flexibly pre-positioned in the production preview and manually moved and rotated in all directions.
